The keyword for our providers and staff, from the center’s medical director to the knowledgeable front-desk personnel, is caring. It is a simple word and one we take seriously. A patient is never a number, a procedure or a revenue dollar. As Lifetree professionals, we integrate patient care through constant teamwork that crosses all specialty lines.
Our treatments for pain fall into three categories:
Medical Management
Interventional Treatment
Psychiatric Care
Medical Management
The goal of drug therapy is to maximize benefits while minimizing adverse side effects. Many patients will need a combination of medications to obtain the best results.
We use four methods to deliver drug therapy: Oral (pills), transdermal (by skin), transmucosal (by the lining of the mouth) and intrathecal (by spinal-cord fluid).
Medications we administer include:
- Anti-depressants
- Anti-convulsants
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs)
- Opioids
- Muscle relaxants
- Investigational medications
Interventional Treatment
Interventional medicine is an exciting specialty because new technology is introducing more treatment options than ever before. It is based on evidence that pain sometimes can be treated at its very source. Procedures are performed that interrupt the pain pathway, thus reducing the pain production or transmission. Some innovations include radiofrequency neurotomies, spinal cord stimulation (SCS), intraspinal delivery systems and minimally invasive intradiscal therapies. Such therapies are surgical procedures; please click here to see our Patient Surgery Guide
The procedures we offer include:
Acupuncture
Bioelectric treatment
Intradiscal electrothermal therapy
Radiofrequency ablation
Spinal cord stimulation
Spinal endoscopy
Spinal drug delivery systems
Therapeutic nerve blocks, such as:
• Celiac plexus block
• Epidural steroid injection
• Facet nerve block
• Intercostal nerve block
• Lumbar sympathetic block
• Stellate ganglion block
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
Trigger point injections
Psychiatric Care
Not all patients who experience chronic pain require a complete psychiatric evaluation. However, psychiatric conditions that co-exist with pain can worsen pain’s impact and require separate treatment. We offer psychiatric expertise for the following conditions:
Dysthymia
Depression
Bipolar disorders
Generalized anxiety disorders
Social anxiety disorder
Panic disorder
Agoraphobia
Post-traumatic stress disorder
Obsessive-compulsive disorder
Additional Services.
- Opioid addiction treatment
- Behavioral counseling and stress management.
Pain is stressful and takes its toll on work, family relationships, social activities – virtually every area of a patient’s life. Behavioral therapies and stress-management techniques can help patients build skills to lessen pain’s impact and augment greater pain control.
- Sleep management
Difficulties with sleep can worsen pain. Conversely, pain can make achieving restful sleep difficult. The relationship between chronic pain and sleep architecture is an area of great interest to us and a top focus for research and treatment options.
